We know that starting something new can feel daunting. That is why our volunteers receive induction, training, guidance and ongoing support, so you can grow into your role at a pace that feels right for you.

Before starting, you will be introduced to TASFund, our values, your volunteer role and the support available to you.

Training Opportunities

Volunteers may access training such as safeguarding, mental health awareness, suicide awareness, equality and diversity, health and safety and other relevant learning.

Questions About Volunteering

Here are some of the questions people commonly ask before becoming a volunteer with TASFund.

Do I need previous volunteering experience?

No. Most volunteer roles do not require previous volunteering or mental health experience. We provide induction, training and ongoing support to help you feel confident in your role.

Can I volunteer if I have used TASFund services?

Yes. We value lived experience and many volunteers have previously accessed support themselves. Having lived experience can be a valuable asset when supporting others.

How much time do I need to commit?

This depends on the role and your availability. We will discuss expectations during the application process and work with you to find a volunteering opportunity that is manageable and sustainable.

Will I receive training?

Yes. Volunteers receive induction and may access a range of training opportunities including safeguarding, mental health awareness, suicide awareness, equality and diversity, health and safety and role-specific learning.

Will I need a DBS check?

Some volunteer roles require a DBS check due to the nature of the work. If a DBS check is required, we will discuss this with you as part of the volunteer journey.

Can volunteering help me return to work or gain experience?

Many volunteers find that volunteering helps them build confidence, develop skills, gain experience and prepare for employment, education or other opportunities.

Will I be volunteering on my own?

No. Volunteers are part of a wider team and receive support from staff, facilitators and fellow volunteers. We want everyone to feel safe, connected and supported.

Can I claim expenses?

Reasonable volunteer expenses may be reimbursed in line with our Volunteer Expenses Policy. Please speak to a member of the team for further information.

What if I am unsure which role is right for me?

That’s absolutely fine. We can talk through your interests, confidence, availability and goals to help identify a role that feels right for you.
