Keeping Your Fundraising Safe & Legal

A few important things to keep in mind

We want your fundraising to be enjoyable, successful and safe. Most fundraising activities are straightforward, but some events may need extra planning, permissions or checks depending on what you are organising.

Collections

Public collections may require permission from the local authority, venue owner or event organiser. Always check before collecting money in public spaces.

Raffles & Lotteries

Raffles, prize draws and lotteries can have specific rules. If you are planning one, please check the requirements before selling tickets.

Food & Drink

If you are serving food, think about hygiene, allergens, storage and labelling. For larger events, further food safety guidance may be needed.

Public Events

Events may need risk assessments, venue permission, first aid arrangements, insurance checks or safeguarding considerations.

Simple Fundraising Checklist

  • Make sure you have permission to use any venue or public space.
  • Think about risks and how you will keep people safe.
  • Check whether your activity needs licences or additional permissions.
  • Be clear that you are fundraising in aid of TASFund.
  • Keep any money collected secure and recorded.
  • Use official fundraising links wherever possible.
  • Ask for advice if you are unsure about anything.
  • Let us know what you are planning so we can support you.

If you are planning a larger event, public collection, raffle or anything you are unsure about, please contact us before going ahead. We will be happy to help you think things through.
