About Baton of Hope

Bringing a National Movement to Tameside

Baton of Hope brings communities together around suicide prevention, remembrance and the importance of open conversations. Its journey creates opportunities for people to share their experiences and stand alongside others.

On 12 September 2025, the Baton arrived in Tameside. Coordinated locally by The Anthony Seddon Fund, the day brought Baton Bearers, volunteers, community organisations, schools, services and residents together across the borough.

Along the route, remembrance, reflection and connection gave the day its meaning. People honoured loved ones, supported one another and helped make suicide prevention visible within their own community.

The Baton’s journey connected places; the people who carried and welcomed it brought compassion, courage and a shared commitment to suicide prevention.

Beyond the Route

Taking the Message Into Community Life

The Baton’s visit connected suicide prevention with everyday places, local organisations and online conversations. It created opportunities for people to encounter the message, whether they carried the Baton, welcomed it or followed the day from elsewhere.

Schools & Local Settings

Stops including Samuel Laycock School, healthcare settings and community venues brought different parts of Tameside into the day’s shared focus on hope and wellbeing.

Face-to-Face Connections

Gatherings along the route, information stalls and the community finale offered opportunities to meet local organisations, share experiences and learn about support.

Sharing the Day Online

Social media updates and photographs gave people another way to follow the journey, share its message and show their support when they could not attend.
