Supporting Someone Else

If You Are Worried About Someone

If There Is Immediate Danger

If someone is at immediate risk of serious harm, has seriously injured themselves, taken an overdose, or needs urgent medical attention, call 999 straight away.

Stay With Them If Safe

If it is safe to do so, stay with the person or help them get to somewhere safer. Try not to leave them alone if you are worried they may harm themselves.

Listen Without Judgement

Give them space to talk and try to listen calmly. You do not need to fix everything; being present and taking them seriously can be very powerful.

Help Them Access Support

Offer to sit with them while they call NHS 111, Samaritans, SAFE Tameside or another support service. It can feel easier when someone is alongside them.
